OK - we've settled in at Brian and Gayes' place and they have taken us to see the giant kauri that is in the forest near Katikati. The forest here has a large number of tree ferns and looks very prehistoric.
After this we checked out the 'farm' that Brian and Gaye have spent so much effort on in the last few years and now they have decided to keep a small (several acres) section to perhaps build on at a future time and sell off the remainder (lots of acres).
We then went to Mount Maunganui to try out the much recommended salt hot water pools. These pools are clorinated geothermal salt water at around 39 degrees celcius - absolutely fantastic....
