Coromandel Peninsula

Well we finally decided that we would explore the Corormandel Peninsula rather than other options. This meant about a 4 hour drive almost east of Auckland.

We found this great place to hang out at Tairua. Special Internet booking price was $99 / night rather than $175 / night available by telephone call. We have this room overlooking the water for at least 2 nights so we'll see how long we can extend this stay for at this price.

This is the view from our lounge room... suits us !!!

We went for a drive to the top of a tall peak on the north side of the mouth to the Tairua Harbour - Mt Paku. This is a block for sale with house overlooking the entrance to this harbour. The surf beach is on the left and the calm water of the harbour is on the right.

View from the top of Mt Paku showing the entrance to the harbour.

Another example of a great holiday home for sale. Absolute water front.

The water here is crystal clear... I tried to capture the clarity in this shot ...

Well that's it for today - tomorrow will be a lot less travel and more interesting activities(we hope)...>:o)

Shell: We have found another great spot here - what a bargain with this accomodation! Driving around there are so many places for sale, it seems like the whole of NZ is for sale! so many homes on the coast with absolutely stunning views, we keep trying to come up with ideas for how we can all move here!! Lyall could spend his days fishing with the kids playing on the beach at the door!!! So come on lets put our heads together!!!

Yeh you found clear water. Had to be there somewhere. Re accomodation Auck. Sandwiched between the adult shop and the other adult shop the hotel was clean, had balconies we were 18th floor. Bargain $30 taxi to airport. So the city reminded me of kowloon you would hate it Michelle. No big shops but stunning marina and dining area. My tip don't bother better deals at the airport shops. Planning for skiing at Wanaka for next winter OK. Martyn has gone shopping, Kara has gone for a facial and I am stuck at home with the kid sleeping soundly. BLISS!!!!!

Hi... we have found this spot @ $99 per night and decided to stay here until next Wednesday until we go straight to the airport and go home. From here we will check out the Coromandel Peninsula (this morning dawned bright and sunny with no wind!! (how awful) >:o)
How did you go with getting GST refund at airport?
Shell says this is the best spot so far - to live!?!?!?
